Sunflower SS-4 A

Practical solutions for weed-infested fields

When managing sunflower crops, the choice of a hybrid that can simplify chemical weed control is essential for maintaining profitability. The "SS-4 A" hybrid from "Solnechnaya Strana" (Sun Country) is designed specifically for agricultural operations that utilize the Clearfield (Euro-Lightning) production system. This hybrid is a primary choice for growers facing high pressure from parasitic weeds like broomrape and persistent broadleaf weeds.

Why agronomists choose the Euro-Lightning system

The core advantage of "SS-4 A" is its inherent resistance to imidazolinone herbicides. For an agronomist, this means a clean, high-yield field with minimal intervention. Instead of relying on multiple mechanical inter-row cultivations or complex pre-emergent herbicide programs, growers can achieve total weed control with a single post-emergent application, significantly reducing operational costs and fuel consumption.

Field Application and Strategy

• Broomrape management: The hybrid's genetic resistance allows it to thrive in fields with high infection pressure where traditional varieties would fail.
• Operational efficiency: Simplifying the weed control program means fewer passes across the field, protecting soil structure and saving valuable time during peak seasons.
• Crop uniformity: The simple hybrid structure ensures even maturation, which is critical for efficient combine harvesting and reducing grain loss at the header.

Developed by original breeders Olga Belyaeva, Ilya Koshkarev, and Roman Sergeevich, the "SS-4 A" hybrid reflects a commitment to resilience and reliability. It maintains steady performance even in volatile weather conditions. By choosing "SS-4 A" from "Solnechnaya Strana," producers acquire more than just seed; they adopt a proven technological model designed for precision, yield security, and minimized field intervention.
