Serbian breeding from the Institut Za Ratarstvo I Povrtarstvo (NS Seme) has established itself as a benchmark for adaptability to challenging climatic conditions. The 'RHA SES IMI' hybrid is the result of years of research by breeders Sinisa Jocic and Dragan Skoric, aimed at creating a crop capable of consistent yields even under heavy pathogen pressure.

Technology stack: resilience as the foundation of productivity

The main engineering feature of this hybrid lies in its genetic architecture, specifically optimized for the Clearfield (Euro-Lightning) production system. The ability to apply post-emergence herbicides allows for total control of weeds, including difficult species, without inducing phytotoxic stress on the sunflower itself. This is critical in regions prone to high weed infestation.

• Phytosanitary reliability: The hybrid's genetics are built around mitigating key fungal threats. Enhanced tolerance to Sclerotinia (white rot) and Phomopsis is achieved through cell wall density and specific defensive proteins developed by the Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops in Novi Sad.
• Developmental dynamics: The vegetation period of 110–120 days is optimal for mid-latitude farming. The plant manages to develop a robust root system that ensures nutrients reach the large flower head, even during mid-summer moisture deficits.
• Grain quality indicators: Oil content of 45–50% makes this hybrid highly attractive for processors. The large seed size facilitates easier handling in elevators and improves the yield of the commercial fraction.

Practical application of 'RHA SES IMI' demonstrates that the synergy between chemical protection (Euro-Lightning) and high natural resistance to rots allows agronomists to reduce fungicide application costs, focusing instead on the efficient use of soil moisture and nutrients.
