Sunflower Goalkeeper

A robust barrier against soil-borne pests

When reclaiming fallow land or operating in fields with high pest pressure, the protection of seedlings becomes the primary operational challenge. The "Golkiper" sunflower hybrid, developed by the V. Ya. Yuriev Plant Production Institute of NAAS, was engineered as a high-tech tool for exactly these conditions. This is not merely a seed variety, but a breeding solution focused on predictability during field operations.

Operational features

The main value of this hybrid for the agronomist lies in its "autonomy" during the initial growth stages. "Golkiper" possesses genetic resistance to a wide range of soil pests. In conditions where other hybrids would demand aggressive insecticide application or risk poor stand establishment, this variety demonstrates high survival rates:

• Comprehensive shield: the genetics effectively suppress the activity of darkling beetles, wireworms, and cereal ground beetles.
• Early-stage protection: resistance to flea beetles, Swedish flies, and cereal flies significantly reduces the need for emergency protective treatments.
• Operational efficiency: the hybrid reacts predictably to standard agronomic practices, maintaining optimal plant density even under moderate pest pressure.

From a logistical and management perspective, using "Golkiper" simplifies the chemical protection plan. You get a crop that doesn't require constant supervision during germination, saving both the budget for chemicals and the man-hours required for spraying. The breeder's seeds provide stable germination energy, which is essential for uniform emergence and consistent maturation, ultimately facilitating easier and more efficient combine harvesting.
