Gambit is a medium-maturing, large-seeded sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) variety recommended for cultivation in the Krasnodar Krai and the North Caucasus region. Plants are characterized by high height at maturity, lack of branching, and green leaf coloration with minimal blistering. Flowering is late, and the ray florets are yellow. Seeds are large, with a 1000-seed mass of 114 g and a shattering coefficient of 0.95. Oil content in the seeds reaches 42–44%, and protein content is 20%. Seed purity is 28%. The growing period of the variety lasts approximately 121 days. Yield in the North Caucasus region averages 23.6 centners per hectare, with maximum yields reaching 47.5 centners per hectare on experimental plots in the Krasnodar Krai. The variety is resistant to rust and lightly affected by dry rot and downy mildew.
Additionally, under the name Gambit, a systemic soil herbicide is marketed, designed for effective control of a broad spectrum of annual broadleaf and grassy weeds in sunflower, corn, pea, potato, and other crop fields. The active ingredient of the preparation is prometryn at a concentration of 500 g/l. The herbicide acts through the soil and partially through the leaves, suppressing respiration and photosynthesis in weeds and altering enzyme activity. It exhibits high selectivity toward cultivated crops and does not adversely affect subsequent crops in crop rotation.
Application of the herbicide Gambit can be performed prior to sowing, simultaneously with sowing, or prior to crop emergence. The dosage of the preparation varies depending on the crop and ranges from 1.5 to 3.5 liters per hectare, with the volume of working solution ranging from 100 to 300 liters per hectare. The preparation is compatible with most soil herbicides and can be used in tank mixtures, ensuring convenience and efficiency in weed control at various stages of agricultural crop growth.
