Sunflower D 500

The Breeding Philosophy of Nikolai Cheban

The D 500 sunflower is a product of Nikolai Savelyevich Cheban’s selective work, representing a specialized approach to crop development tailored for regional agricultural realities. This hybrid occupies a specific niche for producers focused not just on yield volume, but on the physical metrics of the kernel.

Large-Seed Advantage

The defining characteristic of D 500 is its large-seed structure. In a market where processing facilities prioritize the weight of a thousand seeds, this variety allows agricultural enterprises to meet the stringent demands of the confectionery and packaging industries. Its market positioning is rooted in the consistency of kernel size and overall output quality.

• Originator: N. S. Cheban (Russia).
• Seed Morphology: Large-size format with a high kernel-to-hull ratio.
• Market Use: Commercial production, specialized for the large-seed market.

The hybrid’s reputation is built on reliability. Unlike ultra-intensive foreign varieties that often struggle under fluctuating environmental conditions, D 500 is bred for better adaptation to moisture volatility and temperature stress. For the producer, this translates to reduced risk of crop failure, ensuring that the harvest meets market standards even in seasons with challenging weather patterns.

Operational Potential

Cultivating D 500 is recommended for farms that balance technological input with precision seeding. Because the seeds are significantly larger, farmers must pay careful attention to planting depth and plant stand density to ensure the head develops to its full potential. Economically, this hybrid serves as a solution for those aiming to achieve premium grain quality while managing input costs efficiently, avoiding total dependence on costly imported seed programs.
