Sunflower Yarilo

Working with the Yarylo Sunflower Variety

From an operator's perspective working with traditional sunflower varieties, Yarylo from the V. Ya. Yuriev Plant Production Institute is a reliable workhorse. It is designed for farms that prioritize consistency over chasing expensive, high-maintenance hybrids. In terms of field management, this variety is highly predictable within any crop rotation system.

Daily Operations and Maintenance

• Field Performance: The vegetation period is approximately 110–115 days. This allows for a relaxed harvest schedule. Its low susceptibility to lodging simplifies header operation significantly, reducing grain loss at the edges and center of the swath.
• Technology: Being a classic open-pollinated variety, it offers flexibility in herbicide application. You are not locked into expensive, proprietary protection systems, which drastically lowers the cost of production per ton.
• Resilience: The variety shows robust resistance to broomrape and downy mildew. In practice, this means fewer expensive fungicide applications, protecting your margins during the mid-season.

Economic Efficiency

The primary advantage of Yarylo is its yield stability, even with moderate fertilizer application. Amidst unpredictable weather, it maintains high seed quality and density. Oil content remains steady at 49–51%, which is critical for meeting elevator and processing standards. During harvesting, the variety behaves well: the sunflower head matures uniformly, and grain moisture levels rarely cause delivery issues. For farmers who prefer proven domestic technology over restrictive contracts, this is an optimal choice.
