Developed by the V. Ya. Yuriev Plant Production Institute of the NAAS, this simple sunflower hybrid is engineered for stable oilseed production under moderate climatic stress. The biological strategy of this hybrid is built on a precise balance between early maturity and intensive lipid accumulation.

Biological Parameters and Growth Dynamics

With a vegetation period of 100–110 days, Charodiy is classified as a mid-early hybrid. This development cycle allows for efficient water utilization during the first half of the season, effectively minimizing the impact of late-July heatwaves on grain filling. The plant height of 160–170 cm ensures optimal crop aeration and facilitates mechanical harvesting, thereby reducing field losses.

Phytopathological Resistance

The engineering focus of the Yuriev Institute selection process targets the most prevalent fungal pathogens. Key resistance nodes include:

• Downy Mildew (Peronospora): integrated genetic resistance markers ensure disease control even under high humidity conditions.
• Rots: complex resistance to gray and white rot prevents premature head senescence and internal seed structure degradation.
• Powdery Mildew: an active immune barrier minimizes the risk of leaf damage, maintaining the photosynthetic surface area until physiological maturity.

The medium-sized, slightly convex head shape on the seed side promotes uniform drying and simplifies threshing. With a target oil content of 45–50%, this hybrid offers a balanced solution for farms employing conventional cultivation technologies, where a combination of high oil content and predictable agronomic performance is required.
