Sugar beet Luxomon

Austrian breeding for high yields

The «Luxomon» sugar beet, produced by the Austrian agricultural giant Saatbau, is a prime example of modern breeding addressing the primary challenges of today’s farmers: finding the perfect balance between root weight and quality characteristics. Developed by the experts at Saatbau Linz eGen, this hybrid is designed for intensive farming technologies, where both tonnage per hectare and sugar stability in fluctuating climates are critical.

Agronomic potential and protection

One of the defining characteristics of Luxomon is its field tolerance. In contemporary agriculture, pathogens evolve rapidly, making crop protection a significant expense. Luxomon demonstrates strong resistance to a range of severe sugar beet diseases:

• Cercospora leaf spot;
• Phoma leaf spot;
• Ramularia leaf spot;
• Powdery mildew.

This genetic foundation allows farmers to optimize their fungicide application schedules, reducing pesticide load without compromising yields. The root’s oval-conical shape is the gold standard for mechanized harvesting. It ensures the beet lifts easily from the soil, minimizing losses during combine passage and reducing the amount of soil contamination in the raw material.

Market positioning

Saatbau products have long been recognized for their rigorous European quality control, and Luxomon is no exception. It is an ideal solution for farms targeting long-term supply contracts with processing plants. The hybrid shows excellent sugar extraction rates, making it highly sought after in established beet-growing regions. The breeder has ensured vigorous germination and strong stress tolerance, factors that are vital during the early stages of crop development.
