Sorrel VEGETARIAN

Consistent harvests for early greens enthusiasts

The 'Vegetarian' sorrel, developed by the Aelita agricultural firm (breeder E. R. Kudryavtseva), is designed for gardeners who value predictability. Unlike wild forms that quickly bolt and go to seed, this variety demonstrates controlled growth, focusing its energy on leaf production rather than flowering.

Key features of the variety

The main competitive advantage of the 'Vegetarian' sorrel lies in its yield and balanced culinary profile. The leaves offer a classic, mild tartness that doesn't overwhelm other ingredients in soups or pastries, but rather complements them perfectly.

• Plant type: Leafy, upright habit, which makes harvesting and garden maintenance significantly easier.
• Usage: Versatile culinary application—from traditional soups to fresh salad mixes.
• Growing conditions: This variety requires consistent soil moisture. In hot weather with insufficient watering, the leaves may accumulate excess oxalic acid, making it best suited for temperate regions or plots equipped with quality irrigation systems.

This variety is ideal for home gardeners who want reliable produce without complex care routines. Thanks to its rapid regrowth rate after cutting, 'Vegetarian' provides a steady supply of greens throughout the entire warm season. It does not require specialized fertilizers, as standard soil preparation with organic matter during the autumn is sufficient for excellent performance.
