Agrobiological Potential of "Kyivskyi Ultra"

"Kyivskyi Ultra" is a specialized hybrid of Rumex patientia L. x Rumex tianshanicus A. Los., developed by the M. M. Hryshko National Botanical Garden. Officially registered in 2006, this variety is optimized for cultivation in the Forest-Steppe and Polissia regions. Its primary advantage is the ability to provide early vitamin-rich greens just 10–15 days after snowmelt.

Field Performance and Resilience

In field conditions, this hybrid demonstrates high adaptability to the Ukrainian climate. With a robust root system (medium to strong branching), the plant efficiently utilizes moisture during the early spring period.

• Winter Hardiness and Growth: The crop is characterized by high winter hardiness, allowing it to survive harsh winters in the Forest-Steppe zone without significant loss. Rapid regrowth after harvesting ensures multiple cuts per season.
• Stress Response: While peak productivity occurs in the cool spring, the hybrid maintains viability during summer heat. However, to maintain the quality of the greens during drought, adequate irrigation is necessary, as the intense shoot formation requires substantial resources.
• Phytosanitary Status: The variety shows notable resistance to common sorrel diseases. The absence or very weak pubescence of the stems and leaves reduces the risk of pathogen accumulation on the plant surface.

The plant develops a strong stem and, in the year of sowing, produces little to no inflorescences, allowing the plant to focus energy on biomass accumulation. With a yield potential of 400–600 centners per hectare, it stands as one of the most productive solutions for early-season vegetable production.
