Rowan BALL

Siberian breeding focused on aesthetics

The 'Sharik' rowan (mountain ash) is the result of development by experts at the Central Siberian Botanical Garden of the SB RAS. This variety differs significantly from wild forms due to its compactness and specific crown shape. Unlike tall, wild species that often appear unkempt, 'Sharik' maintains a neat appearance even without intensive pruning.

Crown architecture and decorative value

The name of the variety speaks for itself: the crown tends to form a neat, spherical shape. This makes the plant an ideal tool for landscape design in temperate and cold climates. Key advantages include:

• High winter hardiness: SB RAS breeding ensures adaptation to harsh Siberian winters without freezing.
• Predictable geometry: requires minimal maintenance time to keep its shape.
• Versatility: suitable for both solitary plantings and incorporation into complex alley compositions.

The limitation of this variety is its narrow specialization; it is an ornamental plant. If your goal is to harvest industrial volumes of fruit for processing, it is better to consider fruit-bearing rowan varieties. Here, the focus is on the foliage, bark texture, and the harmony of the silhouette, making 'Sharik' a top choice for private gardens and urban parks with limited space.

Who is this variety for?

'Sharik' is a find for owners of small plots where balancing "green mass" and open space is essential. It will not grow into an uncontrollable giant that shades the entire garden, and it will remain visually appealing throughout the season, from spring flowering to the rich autumn coloration of its leaves.
