Siberian Resilience for Forage Production

The 'Buryatsky' wheatgrass (Elymus), developed by the Siberian Federal Scientific Center of Agrobiotechnology, shifts the focus from sheer volume to endurance. In regions of high-risk farming where many perennials fail after the first harsh winter, this variety demonstrates exceptional hardiness.

Key Advantages

• Cold Resistance: Adapted to a sharply continental climate, this variety is an optimal choice for areas with short growing seasons and deep soil freezing.
• Versatility: 'Buryatsky' proves highly productive whether harvested for hay or used for silage. Its physical structure yields a balanced green mass suitable for long-term storage.
• Grazing Potential: Unlike many specialized forage grasses, this wheatgrass withstands grazing pressure well and demonstrates vigorous regrowth after being cut back.

Cultivation Insights

With a vegetation period of 100 to 120 days, it is not an early-maturing crop, but it compensates with consistent biomass accumulation. It is designed for producers in harsh climates who require predictable results without the high costs of frequent reseeding. A minor trade-off is the need to strictly adhere to harvesting schedules to ensure the stems retain their maximum nutritional value.

This variety is for those who prioritize reliability. It does not require greenhouse conditions and is ideal for establishing long-term managed pastures that maintain high productivity over many years without thinning out.
