Ensuring Feed Stability: Kорсар (Korsar) Wheatgrass

In regions facing challenging climate conditions and soil variability, selecting a forage crop that offers both resilience and high nutritional yield is paramount. The Korsar variety of wheatgrass, developed by RosNIIPTI SK / Saratov GUBI, represents a targeted selection effort to provide livestock farmers with a reliable perennial forage source.

The Genetic Foundation

The development of the Korsar variety was led by experts Valery Ivanovich Zhuzhukin and Galina Ivanovna Kostina, in collaboration with the "Eco Reference Farm" and the Russian Research and Design Technological Institute of Sorghum and Corn. Their objective was to bridge the gap between wild-type resilience and the specific productivity requirements of modern intensive agriculture.

Key Advantages for Producers

• Drought Tolerance: Korsar is engineered to maintain vegetative integrity even during moisture-deficient periods, ensuring a reliable crop output despite weather fluctuations.
• Forage Quality: The variety offers high digestibility, making it an excellent choice for dairy and beef cattle diets.
• Longevity: As a perennial crop, Korsar reduces the need for frequent field rotation, providing consistent harvests over several consecutive years.

Typically applied in grazing mixtures or for hay production, Korsar wheatgrass excels on loamy and sandy-loam soils. Its strong regrowth energy after mowing allows for multiple harvests per season, maximizing land efficiency. For farm operations focused on sustainable and low-input forage production, this variety offers a robust and dependable genetic profile that aligns with the requirements of risk-prone agricultural zones.
