Tonal salad is a mid-early leaf type of Batavia developed by Vilmorin. The plant features dense, upright leaves of deep green color with a highly blistered and wavy edge structure, along with small, rare slashes in the terminal part. The leaves are large and triangular, giving the salad an attractive appearance. The average plant weight is about 220 grams, and the rosette diameter reaches 25 cm at a height of 22 cm, ensuring a good harvest volume. The variety is characterized by high disease resistance, including downy mildew (Bl 1-25, 27, 28, 30, 31) and lettuce mosaic virus LMV (0). Due to its stress tolerance and high cold hardiness, Tonal is suitable for cultivation in various climatic conditions, including winter-spring rotation in greenhouses. The plant demonstrates good growth energy and is capable of forming heavy rosettes, contributing to high yield — up to 5.3 kg per square meter. Tonal salad is intended for cultivation in both protected and open ground, making it a universal choice for farmers and gardeners. For sowing, it is recommended to use two seeds instead of three when using coated seeds, which optimizes the growing process. This variety is ideal for fresh consumption thanks to its taste qualities and attractive appearance.
