Silybum Debuit – an annual prickly plant up to 1.5 m tall that is easy to grow both in open ground and in garden conditions. The leaves have a leathery surface with characteristic white spots; upper leaves have serrated edges and are adorned with yellow spines, giving the plant a noticeable appearance.
The plant's fruits are black-yellow shiny seeds that are harvested at the end of August–beginning of September. Seeds and roots are used to prepare tinctures and decoctions, while young leaves and petioles can be added to salads. In terms of cuisine, silybum has a soft but rich taste.
The therapeutic properties of Silybum Debuit include restorative, anti-inflammatory and cleansing effects, especially for the liver and gallbladder. Tinctures and decoctions are used for liver and gallbladder diseases, rheumatism, chronic bronchitis and other conditions of the gastrointestinal tract, cardiovascular system and reproductive system. Sprouted seeds are also valued for their vitamin composition and contribute to overall health restoration.
