DescriptionPECHENEG
The PECHENEG variety of alkali foxtail is an erect, medium-density culture with high tillering – up to 70 stems and more. The stems are straight, stiff, with a height ranging from 80 to 150 cm; the pubescence is weak or absent. Leaves are elongated-linear, bluish-green, rough, which gives the plant its characteristic appearance.
The PECHENEG ear is straight and dense, with a length of 12 to 17 cm; upon ripening, it acquires a yellow color. The seed weight ranges from 2.5–3.0 g per 1000 seeds. The plant has high winter hardiness as well as resistance to drought and salts, making it suitable for growing in various climatic conditions.
PECHENEG develops slowly: normal development is only achieved on the third year of life. Nevertheless, it provides good yields of green mass (up to 77 c/ha), hay (39.0 c/ha) and seeds (1.5 c/ha). Due to these characteristics, this variety is widely used in meadow-pasture management as a forage plant for animals. The manufacturer is FSBSI «Eshovskaya SSOI NIIIS of the South-East», and the year it was included in the register – 2010.
