Borage APRILSKY

Borage «Aprelskiy» by Company Lance: A Herb Garden Staple

Borage (Borago officinalis) is an often overlooked herb, but the «Aprelskiy» variety from Company Lance changes the perception of this crop. Developed in collaboration with the Far Eastern Experimental Station of VIR and heterosis breeding specialists, this variety offers a significant upgrade over wild types in terms of uniformity and yield quality.

Why Choose «Aprelskiy»?

With a vegetation period of 50 to 70 days, this variety fits perfectly into the early spring crop rotation. The plants reach a height of 40–60 cm, allowing for high-density planting without overcrowding the garden beds.

• Culinary Profile: The leaves provide a crisp, refreshing cucumber flavor, perfect for salads, soups, and healthy beverages.
• Scientific Breeding: Unlike unverified varieties, «Aprelskiy» benefits from systematic selection, ensuring consistent plant habit and reliable growth patterns.
• Pollination Booster: Even if you harvest most of the leaves, letting a few plants bloom creates a magnet for bees and bumblebees, significantly improving the yield of other cross-pollinated vegetables in your garden.

The main challenge with borage is managing the lifecycle; once the plant starts flowering, the leaves become tougher. For optimal culinary results, harvest young leaves consistently before the main flowering phase. «Aprelskiy» is an excellent choice for small-scale growers and organic farmers who value bio-diversity and fresh, early-season greens. Its strength lies in its predictable growth and climate adaptability, making it a robust addition to any vegetable patch looking to diversify its herbal output.
