Borage MEDONOS

Borage from the Gavrish Selection School

Borage, or cucumber herb, remained in the shadows of popular culinary herbs for a long time, but the "Medonos" variety from the Gavrish selection firm has rekindled interest in this plant among both home gardeners and professional beekeepers. Developed under the direction of Sergey Fedorovich Gavrish, this variety is a classic example of breeding work focused on improving both foliage productivity and the plant's melliferous qualities.

Agronomic Features

"Medonos" stands out among alternatives due to its vigorous growth. During the vegetation period, the plant forms a robust rosette of juicy, fleshy leaves with a distinct fresh aroma reminiscent of cucumber. The key advantages of this variety include:

• High growth energy: rapid regeneration of greens after cutting.
• Extended flowering period: large, star-shaped, deep blue flowers attract a significant number of pollinating insects.
• Nutritional value: young leaves are rich in Vitamin C, carotene, and mineral salts.

Practical Application

The "Medonos" variety is a versatile tool for any grower. Firstly, it serves as a piquant addition to spring salads, providing a unique freshness. Secondly, borage is an outstanding honey plant; planting this variety near vegetable crops significantly improves pollination rates in the field. The Gavrish firm has ensured the stability of the variety's traits, making "Medonos" highly predictable in cultivation: the plant is hardy, cold-resistant, and capable of self-seeding while maintaining its original properties year after year.
