Rapeseed Marathon

German Breeding Precision in Every Seed

When selecting winter oilseed rape, producers are often forced to choose between the high-input requirements of hybrids and the reliability of open-pollinated varieties. The "Marathon" variety from Deutsche Saatveredelung (DSV) bridges this gap. By offering a yield potential of 60–70 dt/ha, Marathon proves that superior genetics can achieve intensive results while maintaining the predictability that professional farmers demand.

A Genetic Shield Against Field Stressors

The primary advantage of Marathon lies in its robust health profile. Verticillium wilt and Phoma stem canker are notorious for devastating rapeseed yields. The originators, Busch Heinrich and Hauska Detlef, have engineered this variety with a focus on physiological resilience. Its moderate branching creates an efficient canopy structure, ensuring proper airflow within the field, which effectively limits the microclimate conditions necessary for fungal disease progression.

Why Marathon Stands Out

• Balanced Cost-Efficiency. As an open-pollinated variety, Marathon provides high yield consistency, allowing producers to manage inputs more effectively without the volatility associated with some first-generation hybrids.
• Superior Disease Resistance. The strong immune profile against Phoma reduces the reliance on heavy prophylactic fungicide schedules, directly lowering the cost per tonne of harvested seed.
• Agronomic Adaptability. Marathon is designed to withstand the varying climate conditions of the sowing season, demonstrating high germination energy and quick establishment.

Marathon is the optimal choice for operations focused on systematic, high-performance agriculture. It is designed for farmers who require a dependable crop that delivers high yields in diverse soil conditions without the constant need for intensive intervention. If your strategy involves maximizing gross yield while maintaining strict control over production risks, the German pedigree of DSV’s Marathon offers a solid foundation for your rotation.
