Pumpkin Southern

A Reliable Choice for Arid Farming Zones

The «Pivdennyi» variety, developed by the experts at the Institute of Vegetable and Melon Growing (UAAS), is a proven solution for farmers operating in regions susceptible to fungal pressure. The primary advantage of this variety is its inherent resistance to powdery mildew, which allows growers to significantly reduce fungicide applications and lower the overall pesticide burden on the soil.

Morphology and Agronomic Profile

This squash variety displays morphological diversity during harvest, with fruits ranging from round to cylindrical shapes with a distinct thickening at one end. The exterior is easily identifiable by its characteristic yellow-brown stripes, which serve as a reliable visual indicator of variety purity and maturity.

Practical Applications in Farming

• Storage and Marketability: With a dense flesh structure and excellent storage longevity, «Pivdennyi» is a staple for producers aiming to supply the market during the off-season, when wholesale prices are more attractive.
• Forage Potential: The variety is widely used in livestock feeding programs. Its high yield of biomass and nutrient-dense fruits provide an essential vitamin boost for livestock during winter cycles.
• Resource Management: «Pivdennyi» is highly adaptable to standard crop rotation practices in Southern Ukraine. It is particularly well-suited for farms focused on cost-effective, sustainable cultivation methods that do not require complex, specialized equipment.

Choosing «Pivdennyi» ensures consistent yields and provides farmers with the peace of mind that comes from protecting their crops against the most common diseases affecting cucurbits.
