Kharkivska 46 — a variety of hard winter wheat, developed by combining four homogeneous lines, including a interspecific hybrid combination involving the soft wheat variety Kharkivska 12 and the selection line of hard wheat 89-752. Plants are erect, with medium-height straw, strong and resistant to lodging. Grain is oval, amber-colored, glassy, with a thousand-grain weight of approximately 46.6 grams. The variety has a medium maturity period — 90–95 days — making it mid-season and suitable for cultivation in various regions.
The yield of this variety ranges from 15.6 to 19 centners per hectare, equivalent to approximately 3.5 tons per hectare. The grain quality is high, with an overall pasta-making score of 7.9 points, indicating its suitability for pasta production. The variety exhibits moderate resistance to diseases and pests, including powdery mildew, septoria, and brown rust, at standard levels.
Kharkivska 46 is recommended for cultivation in the Volga Region, Lower Volga Region, Ural Region, as well as in the Orenburg Region, Bashkortostan Republic, and Chelyabinsk Region. The variety was developed in 1952 and officially included in the register of approved varieties in 1957 by the Institute of Plant Breeding named after V.Ya. Yuryev of NAAN Ukraine, confirming its proven adaptability and reliability in agricultural use.
