PLANTAIN is a perennial herbaceous plant growing up to 50 cm tall, with lance-shaped leaves gathered in a rosette of basal leaves. The flowers are small, located in elongated-egg-shaped spikes and appear from May to August.
The plant prefers moist fertile soils but survives winter well due to its frost resistance. Seeds sown as seedlings in February–April ripen by June, after which the plant begins to grow and develop actively.
Young PLANTAIN leaves are widely used in cuisine: they can be added to salads, porridges, purees, and drinks. In folk medicine, infusions and decoctions from roots and leaves are used to treat various conditions. Due to the content of glycosides, tannins, vitamins C and K, carotene, citric acid, and other biologically active compounds, the plant possesses blood-purifying, anti-inflammatory, antitussive, diuretic, spasmolytic, expectorant, and demulcent effects. Additionally, PLANTAIN can stop bleeding and accelerate epithelization of wounds, promoting their rapid healing.
