Mallow Udacha

Genetic Potential for Ornamentation

The 'Udacha' mallow variety, developed by the Samara Federal Research Center of the RAS (V.F. Kazarin, A.V. Kazarina), is a result of targeted breeding focused on aesthetic impact. The key technical parameter of this variety is its flowering type: a double (double-flowered) blossom structure. Unlike single-flowered forms, the doubling effect of 'Udacha' is achieved by transforming stamens into additional petals, which significantly increases the visual density of the flower and extends its decorative lifespan.

Engineering Solutions for Landscape Design

From an agrotechnical perspective, this variety is optimized for landscaping tasks. The plant architecture features sturdy, upright stalks capable of supporting heavy flower heads without the need for staking—a critical factor for open spaces subject to wind loads.

• Morphological Resilience: Breeding for petal density provides protection for the inner parts of the flower against moisture accumulation and subsequent decay.
• Spatial Planning: Due to the high concentration of double blooms per unit area, the variety allows for the creation of dense color focal points, minimizing voids in group plantings.
• Adaptability: The work by the Samara Federal Research Center is rooted in climate-resilient breeding, ensuring the plant possesses a robust immunity to temperature fluctuations during the growing season.

The use of 'Udacha' in landscape projects is recommended for backgrounds in mixed borders and decorative screens, where structural stability and a rich color palette are required throughout the summer season.
