The Isatis costata L. variety ARYANA is a highly productive plant specifically developed for cultivation throughout Russia. It is characterized by tall growth and distinctive lanceolate-spatulate basal leaves of dark green color without hairiness, as well as lanceolate stem leaves of a blue-green shade with entire margins. Early maturity allows for harvest in shorter periods.
ARYANA boasts outstanding productivity: green mass reaches up to 411 c/ha (42 c above the average indicator), and seeds – up to 4.7 c/ha. The fruit is a single-seeded pod of a linear-clinoid and pendulous type, dark brown in color with round light brown seeds. Abundance of leaves and high dye content make the plant a valuable raw material for producing natural dyes.
The variety is distinguished by resistance to diseases and pests, as well as being a good nectar source. Due to high adaptability to various climatic conditions, it grows easily in the Northern, Northwestern, Central, Volga-Vyatka, Central Black Earth, North Caucasian, Middle-Volga, Lower-Volga, Urals, Western Siberian, Eastern Siberian, and Far Eastern regions. Minimal care and rapid growth ensure a dense bush, guaranteeing a stable output of raw materials for the textile and food industries.
Developed by scientists Prakhova T. Ya. and Timoshkin O. A., the ARYANA variety is the result of work by the Federal Research Center for Fiber Crops, confirming its high technological value and reliability in agronomic application.
