Philadelphus – a decorative shrub of the hydrangea family, known for its fragrant white or cream blossoms and high frost hardiness. Bushes typically reach a height of one to three meters, have erect or slightly curved branches that become arc-like over time, giving the plant a rounded shape. Leaves are simple, opposite, pointed at the tip and deep green, 2 to 7 cm long, can be ovate or broadly ovate.

Philadelphus flowers are fragrant, semi-double or double, gathered in small clusters on the tops of young shoots. They open from late May to late July, creating a prolonged flowering period of 2–3 weeks for individual varieties and up to 45 days when combining early and late varieties. The fruit is a small many-sided box containing several seeds.

For successful cultivation of Philadelphus, choose sunny or slightly shaded areas with fertile loamy soil providing good drainage. Planting is done in spring (April–March) or autumn (September–October) in a 50×50 cm hole, with a distance of 1–1.5 m between bushes. Watering is required 1–2 times a week in the first year, and once every 10–14 days after rooting. Care includes regular feeding with organic and mineral fertilizers, sanitary pruning in spring and after flowering, as well as rejuvenation every 3–4 years. Philadelphus is resistant to diseases, but with poor care may suffer from fungal diseases (gray mold, powdery mildew) and pests (aphids, spider mites). Proper agronomy, mulching of the base and timely treatment allow to minimize risks and keep the bush in a healthy state.
