Redhaven

Redhaven — a high-yielding peach variety developed in the USA in 1940 by breeders from the University of Michigan. This variety has a medium ripening period, which in Kyiv's climate falls at the end of July to the beginning of August. The trees are medium-sized with wide, round or conical crowns of moderate density, grafted onto almond rootstocks, which ensures their longevity and allows cultivation even on rocky carbonate soils. Redhaven has moderate winter hardiness and resistance to diseases of fruit trees, making it suitable for cultivation in various climatic zones of Ukraine, both for private gardens and on an industrial scale. The fruits are large, weighing 140-150 grams, round in shape with slight flattening on the sides. Their color is bright yellow with a deep burgundy or red blush covering most of the surface. The flesh is orange-yellow, slightly pinkish near the pit, tender, low-fiber, very juicy and sweet with a strong aroma. The pit separates easily from the flesh, facilitating consumption and processing. Due to its excellent taste qualities, which received a high tasting rating — 4.9 out of 5, the variety is considered an unambiguous leader in taste among peaches. The fruits are suitable for fresh consumption as well as for processing into compotes and jams. Redhaven is characterized by high yield and good transportability, making it popular for commercial cultivation. The variety is resistant to frost and late spring frosts, ensuring a stable harvest even under adverse weather conditions. Thanks to its qualities and adaptability, the Redhaven peach is successfully grown not only in the USA but also in several European countries, as well as in Ukraine, where it enjoys deserved popularity among gardeners and fruit producers.
