Onion Zolotista

Breeding Profile and Technical Specifications

The «Zolotysta» onion variety, developed by the Institute of Vegetable and Melon Growing of the NAAS, is the product of targeted selection aimed at the specific soil and climatic conditions of Ukraine. The technical focus of this variety is the balance between crop maturation and the physical durability of the bulb, which is crucial for long-term storage. Unlike fast-maturing hybrids, «Zolotysta» forms a dense bulb structure, reducing the risk of mechanical damage during mechanized harvesting.

Key Morphological Features

• Protective Barrier: A multi-layered, dry golden-yellow skin acts as an effective shield against moisture loss and pathogen penetration during storage.
• Root System: The variety features a robust root architecture that allows for efficient soil moisture uptake, providing resilience during periods of low precipitation.
• Internal Structure: The thickness of the succulent scales provides a balanced flavor profile, highly valued in both industrial processing and the retail sector.

Field practice demonstrates that «Zolotysta» maintains high yield stability and excellent bulb uniformity, which simplifies post-harvest grading and sorting. The variety’s inherent resistance to typical regional onion pathogens allows for a more efficient crop protection strategy. Developed by the IOB NAAS, this variety is an optimal choice for commercial producers looking for a reliable, stable, and high-storage potential crop adapted to local environmental conditions.
