Onion T866

Stable Yields for Professional Storage

The T866 onion hybrid by Takii Europe B.V. is a reliable choice for commercial farms focused on premium quality produce capable of withstanding long-term storage. Bred by Wim van Ham, this hybrid incorporates the resilience and consistency characteristic of the Dutch breeding tradition.

Agronomic Profile

With a vegetation period of 120–130 days, this mid-to-late hybrid is perfectly suited for temperate climates where proper neck maturation before harvest is crucial. The formation of a uniform, rounded bulb with dense, bright-brown scales allows for efficient mechanical harvesting without compromising quality.

Practical Applications

• Long-term Storage: Due to the high density of its outer scales, T866 remains firm through the winter months, enabling growers to wait for peak market prices without fear of storage losses.
• Large-scale Operations: The hybrid responds predictably to standard fertilization regimes and field management. Its uniform, round shape significantly streamlines the sorting process on automated packaging lines.
• Market Appeal: The bright-brown skin color is a gold standard for the retail market, maintaining an attractive appearance on the shelf, which is essential for consistent supermarket supply.

By choosing T866, agricultural businesses gain a predictable and professional tool. It offers the essential balance between high yields and the storage shelf-life required to capture high-demand market windows.
