Onion Olympus

Field Experience: Using the «Olimpos» Onion

When working with «Olimpos» by SDK-SIDS, it quickly becomes clear that this is a tool designed for a specific purpose. In modern farming, it’s not just about having high-quality seeds; it’s about knowing how the crop will handle stress—be it drought or temperature fluctuations. Based on real-world application, there are several key points that every agronomist should consider.

Reliability and Predictability

The defining trait of «Olimpos» is its stability. Unlike many imported hybrids that demand "greenhouse" conditions, this variety from SDK-SIDS is adapted to local soil and climate realities. It is a low-maintenance, hardy crop: following a standard plant protection schedule provides excellent resistance to common bulb diseases. You don’t need to be in the field with a sprayer constantly, which saves both chemicals and labor hours.

From Planting to Harvest

• Planting: The germination is uniform, which is critical for achieving a consistent commercial crop. This means that during harvest, the percentage of off-grade bulbs is kept to an absolute minimum.
• Vegetation Management: «Olimpos» responds very well to irrigation. With a proper watering system, the bulbs gain mass exactly as expected. Crucially, the variety is not prone to cracking during periods of excess moisture, a common issue with more sensitive, trendy hybrids.
• Storage and Logistics: Shelf life is the ultimate test. In storage, this onion holds up remarkably well. Its dense outer scales protect the product from damage during transportation, keeping sorting losses low.

From an agronomical perspective, «Olimpos» is a reliable instrument that doesn’t require over-complication. If your goal is a consistent yield without nasty surprises, rather than chasing record-breaking results at the expense of quality, this is a sound choice. It integrates easily into crop rotation, is predictable in terms of fertilizer and pesticide costs, and consistently meets market requirements for commercial appearance and bulb size.
