The Damascus F1 onion is a mid-season hybrid developed by Dutch breeders of the company Seminis and adapted to the climatic conditions of Ukraine and Moldova. The maturity period is approximately 116-118 days, allowing for harvest within one season when sown directly into open ground. This onion prefers soils with neutral or slightly acidic pH, grows well in well-aerated, water-permeable soils, and does not require special seed preparation before planting. The hybrid is resistant to high humidity, heat, and sunburn, making it a reliable choice for various weather conditions. Bulbs have round or round-cuboid shapes with brown outer scales, weighing from 130 to 300 grams, sometimes up to 700 grams, and a diameter of 9-12 cm. The flesh is snow-white, juicy, tender, and sweet, without bitterness, ensuring excellent taste qualities. The onion has high bulb density and excellent outer scale retention, contributing to good storability and long-term storage up to six months. Due to these characteristics, the hybrid is suitable for both fresh consumption and processing. An additional advantage of Damascus F1 is its resistance to diseases such as basal rot, false powdery mildew, and root rot. The onion is ideal for mechanical harvesting, simplifying harvest and reducing cultivation costs. It is recommended to grow this hybrid without seedlings across the entire territory of Ukraine and Moldova with a sowing rate of approximately 1 million seeds per hectare. This hybrid combines high yield, excellent taste, and adaptability to various growing conditions.
