Onion Borzenka

Field Performance and Adaptability

The 'Borzenka' variety, registered in 2026 by the 'Maiak' Research Station, is characterized by an early development cycle. A critical factor for growers is the variety's strong tendency to bolt. This requires precise management of planting dates and temperature monitoring, as the plant is sensitive to spring temperature fluctuations. Its early start allows the crop to capitalize on spring soil moisture, ensuring rapid vegetative growth.

Morphological Traits and Resilience

The plant develops a thin pseudostem with a moderate waxy coating, which acts as a natural defense mechanism against environmental stressors. The upright, long leaves ensure optimal airflow within the canopy, reducing the risk of fungal diseases often associated with dense planting. The low number of pseudostems per plant contributes to a well-ventilated crop structure, which is essential for maintaining plant health.

Cultivation and Harvest

When planted in autumn, 'Borzenka' reaches technical maturity within a medium timeframe, with a notably short period from spring emergence to harvest readiness. This makes it a viable option for early-season production. The variety produces a medium number of aerial bulb tiers with consistent diameters, facilitating predictable harvest planning. The absence of anthocyanin coloration in the pseudostem serves as a key diagnostic feature for field identification and quality control.
