Momordica "Jade" is an annual vine of the cucumber family that grows rapidly and creates decorative tendrils suitable for fences, gazebos, or greenhouses. Fruits reach a length of 10–20 cm and a diameter of up to 7 cm, usually colored bright orange, but may have yellow shades as they ripen. Inside the fruit is a juicy dark ruby flesh, whose taste resembles ripe persimmon with a slight bitter aftertaste.
The "Jade" variety is distinguished by a high content of alkaloids, carotene, and insulin-like peptides, as well as vitamins E and folic acid. These substances give the fruit not only a rich taste but also beneficial properties: they contribute to improved immunity, reduce cholesterol levels, and help in the fight against hypertension, diabetes, and other diseases.
Care for the plant is simple: seeds can be sown without prior processing, seedlings appear within 10 days. The plant prefers warm water for irrigation and does not require complex fertilization; during fruiting, it is convenient to use ash or chicken manure infusion. For successful planting, it is important to provide support, as the vine grows rapidly and needs support. With proper care, "Jade" can yield up to 243 grams per vine, and fruits can be used fresh, pickled, or stewed.
All parts of the plant – leaves, roots, seeds, flowers, and fruits – are considered nutritious and healing. Leaves have a characteristic bitterness and are often used in traditional medicine, while the flesh of the fruits is widely used in cuisine, from simple appetizers to exotic jams.
