Vanos is a unique variety of tea plant from the Theaceae family, belonging to the species Camellia sinensis. The leaves of this variety are characterized by an oblong shape, ranging from 4 to 15 cm in length and 2–5 cm in width, usually with slightly pointed edges. The plant grows as a small evergreen tree or bush, often cultivated with pruning to form a compact shrub. Flowers appear closer to autumn in the form of white-pink five-petaled inflorescences, up to 7 cm in size, and have a strong aroma.
Vanos is cultivated primarily on third-generation family farms in the Indian region of Karnataka. Here, Demeter® biodynamic farming methods are used, which include plant diversity, cover crops, and livestock integration without the use of synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides. Thanks to this growing system, plants receive rich soil with high organic matter content, which enhances leaf quality and their aromatic properties.
Tulsi Vanos has a calming effect and strengthens the immune system thanks to its adaptogenic and antioxidant properties. It is caffeine-free, so it is ideal for evening consumption as a relaxing drink. For preparing tea, it is recommended to steep one sachet in 1 cup of boiling water for 4–5 minutes, and then serve hot or chilled with ice. If desired, a stronger infusion can be made by adding several sachets.
Growing Vanos requires acidic soil rich in organic matter; the soil should be moist but not dried out. The plant tolerates temperatures from 5 to 26 °C well and can withstand short-term drops below zero. When transplanting, it is important not to bury the root neck too deep, and for propagation, use seeds or cuttings, scarifying them beforehand to accelerate germination.
