Adygei tea is a unique tea variety cultivated in northern regions on acidic soils at an altitude of about 350 meters above sea level. The plant is an evergreen shrub or low tree capable of reaching up to 10 meters in natural conditions. Due to its high frost resistance (up to -40 °C), it is considered the northernmost and most cold-resistant tea variety in the world.
Adygei tea leaves contain about 16% tannins, which significantly exceeds the indicators of most other types. This gives the drink a special bitterness and a tonic effect. The composition also includes caffeine, theophylline, catechins, B group vitamins, and amino acids (leucine, methionine, phenylalanine, threonine, isoleucine), which contribute to improving the work of the central nervous system, increase blood circulation, and have a protective effect in hypertension, atherosclerosis, and poisoning.
In the pharmaceutical industry, Adygei tea is used as raw material for obtaining caffeine and theophylline, as well as catechins with R-vitamin activity. These compounds are used in disorders of vessel permeability, hemorrhagic diatheses, and hemorrhages. Moreover, tea leaves and pollen can serve as antidotes to poisons, narcotics, and alcohol. In cosmetology, the plant is valued for its antioxidant potential and ability to protect the skin from radiation.
