Kostromskaya Rozovaya is a cranberry (Vaccinium) variety selected from wild populations and characterized by its distinctive pink berry color. The bushes are of medium height, reaching 15–20 cm, with evenly branched shoots and evergreen leathery leaves with smooth surfaces. The berries are round, 9–10 mm in diameter, with an average weight of 0.34 g and a maximum of 1.2 g. In the Kostroma region, berries ripen in mid-August (15–20 August), and under favorable climatic and soil conditions, double harvesting is possible – the first in late July–August, the second in early September–October.
The variety is distinguished by high yield: from 0.76 to 2.68 kg of berries per square meter. Cranberries prefer acidic (pH 3–5), loose, well-drained soil – peat, sandy loam, sand, or their mixtures. Care for the bushes is simple: early spring sanitary pruning maintains plant compactness, and fertilizing with ash (50 g per m²) in early season stimulates growth and fruiting.
Kostromskaya Rozovaya is undemanding to climate and frost-resistant down to –30 °C. Berries can be consumed fresh, used for jam, juice, candy, or sugar-coating. Leaves and shoots are used in folk medicine as a diuretic and antiseptic. Due to their bright appearance and rich sour-sweet taste, berries also find application in landscape design, where they decorate paths and compositions.
