SPRING SNOW – is a delphinium belonging to the buttercup family and known for its bright, torch-like inflorescences in shades of blue, pink, white, and purple. The plant can be either annual or perennial; height ranges from 50 cm to 2 m, allowing its use in various compositions – from low flower beds to tall fountains. Each inflorescence consists of many small petals forming an 'eye', giving the flower special decorative appeal.
For successful delphinium cultivation, choose a sunny location with good drainage and neutral or slightly alkaline soil (pH 6.0–7.5). Planting is recommended in spring (late April – early May) or early autumn, with a distance of at least 50 cm between plants. Regular watering once every 7–10 days and fertilization with nitrogen fertilizers at the beginning of the season, phosphorus-potassium ones before flowering, and organic ones after it promote healthy growth and abundant flowering.
Delphinium care includes pruning inflorescences after flowering to stimulate autumn reblooming, as well as protection in cold regions: stems can be cut back to 15–20 cm, mulched with peat or straw. If necessary, plants are divided every 5–6 years to maintain their compactness and decorative value. Pests (aphids, flies, snails) and diseases (powdery mildew, black spot, root rot) require preventive treatment, however, with proper care, the delphinium remains a durable and beautiful element of any garden.
