Poppy Toreador

Aesthetics with a Scientific Background

Developed by breeders at the M.M. Gryshko National Botanical Garden, the 'Toreador' poppy represents a rare blend of academic breeding standards and high ornamental value. Unlike wild field varieties, this hybrid was specifically engineered for landscape design, which defines its primary visual advantages.

Visual Characteristics and Adaptability

The hallmark of 'Toreador' is the saturated, deep color of its petals, which remains vivid even under direct sunlight. In the Ukrainian climate, the variety shows impressive resilience: it does not require specialized fertilizers and is well-adapted to the typical temperature fluctuations of the spring-summer season.

• Plant Architecture: A sturdy stem capable of withstanding wind gusts without requiring additional support.
• Flowering: An extended budding period, ensuring that flowerbeds maintain their aesthetic appeal for a longer duration.
• Maintenance: A minimalist approach; the variety is undemanding regarding soil composition, though it thrives best in well-drained areas.

Who is this variety for?

'Toreador' is ideal for private estate owners and landscape designers seeking an 'accent' plant. It is not intended for large-scale agricultural production; its true potential lies in moorish lawns, mixed borders, and the foreground of flower gardens. The hybrid’s strength lies in its stunning visual impact, while its limitation is the lack of industrial seed utility due to its strictly ornamental focus. This is a choice for the aesthetic connoisseur who values high-level domestic selection.
