Poppy Heat

Engineering features of the «Zhar» poppy variety

Developed by the Institute of Oilseed Crops of NAAS of Ukraine, this variety is tailored for landscape design and home gardening. Unlike industrial oilseed crops, «Zhar» is a specialized selection focused on aesthetic value, while retaining the biological resilience characteristic of Ukrainian breeding science.

Technical profile and life cycle

• Vegetation type: Mid-season. Optimized for temperate climatic zones, allowing the plant to form a robust root system and sufficient above-ground biomass before peak summer temperatures occur.
• Biological resource: The variety demonstrates predictable development dynamics, minimizing lodging risks when standard agricultural practices are followed.
• Purpose: Ornamental. This is the core selection marker, defining the plant's architecture and flowering intensity.

The practical value of «Zhar» lies in its balanced development. Its mid-season cycle allows for seamless integration into ornamental garden rotations without crowding out neighboring species. The originator's consistency ensures adherence to the declared phenotype, which is critical when creating landscape arrangements with a predictable flowering window.

When growing this variety, keep in mind that its potential is best realized in light, well-drained soils. NAAS breeding focuses on adaptability to local soil and climatic conditions, meaning «Zhar» requires no complex fertilization schemes and performs reliably under standard care.
