Yamhoriv is a variety of low-morphed olive poppy grown in Ukraine for the production of high-quality seed oil and a food product. The seeds of this variety have a bluish tint, with a 1000-seed mass ranging from 0.45 to 0.51 g, and an oil content reaching 48–49%. High yield – 14–18 c/ha – makes Yamhoriv attractive for intensive agrotechnologies and fertilizers. Plants grow to a height of 115–125 cm, have a straight stem structure with a waxy coating and hairs, and the root system represents a taproot structure.
Cultivating Yamhoriv requires adherence to specific agrotechnical measures: sowing into moist soil at a depth of 1–1.5 cm, protection from weeds with herbicides (metolachlor, clomazone), prevention of downy mildew with fungicides (mancozeb, Aliett, Abacus, ADEXAR, Pictor) and control of pests in the root zone. Plants are able to withstand low temperatures in the fork phase (-6–8 °C), which ensures crop stability even under unfavorable weather conditions.
Yamhoriv is characterized by uniform maturation, resistance to damage and pests, as well as high seed fill. Thanks to these characteristics, the variety is widely used in the bakery and confectionery industries, where its blue grain color and the quality of the oil obtained by cold pressing are valued. As a result, Yamhoriv becomes one of the key cultural resources for the production of high-quality food oil in Ukraine.
