Alfalfa Dorado

Working with Dorado Alfalfa

Selecting the right seed variety for long-term forage production requires a focus on consistency. Dorado alfalfa, developed by the Turkish producer May-Agro Tohumculuk Sanayi ve Ticaret A.Ş., stands out as a reliable choice for professional agricultural operations. From an operator's perspective, this hybrid balances robust growth with the logistical ease required during peak harvesting season.

Growth and Harvesting Characteristics

Dorado consistently reaches a plant height of 70–90 cm. This uniform growth is a major advantage for machine operation; it allows forage harvesters and mowers to maintain steady speeds without clogging issues.

Operational Best Practices

• Regrowth Rate: One of the standout features is the speed of regrowth after cutting. This allows for a shorter interval between cycles, maximizing the total number of cuts throughout the growing season.
• Machinery Compatibility: The stems are well-suited for standard baling equipment. The crop dries evenly, which minimizes the mechanical loss of leaves—the most nutritious part of the plant—during tedding and raking.
• Management: Developed under the guidance of originator Ilker Ozmen, Dorado is bred for resilience. While it responds well to high-input management, it remains highly adaptable to various soil types, making it a low-risk choice for diverse field conditions.

In terms of maintenance, Dorado behaves predictably. It does not require specialized handling; rather, it performs consistently with standard agricultural practices. For owners, this means less time troubleshooting and more confidence that the harvest will be completed efficiently, regardless of the seasonal fluctuations.
