Lettuce Pogonich

Practical cultivation guide: "Pohonych" lettuce

When selecting a lettuce variety for commercial production, the main priority is efficiency. The "Pohonych" variety, developed by the M.M. Gryshko National Botanical Garden, serves as a high-performance tool for local growers. As a classic Multyleaf type, it streamlines the harvesting process and enhances the economic viability of the entire cultivation cycle.

Operational advantages

The core advantage of this variety lies in its specific structure. Once harvested, the head breaks down into a multitude of individual, pre-calibrated leaves. For the operator, this eliminates the need for further processing, trimming, or sorting. The product is essentially ready for packaging immediately upon harvest, significantly reducing labor hours and minimizing yield loss during post-harvest handling.

Agronomic predictability

Engineered for the Ukrainian climate, "Pohonych" offers consistent results in both open fields and protected environments. The high uniformity of the crop allows for precise production scheduling. Since the plants grow at a steady, predictable rate, growers can rely on consistent maturity windows, simplifying logistics and supply chains for retail partners.

Economic performance

The compact and dense nature of the rosettes allows for optimized plant spacing, maximizing yield per hectare without compromising airflow. Furthermore, the variety’s inherent resistance to common lettuce diseases reduces the frequency of pesticide applications, helping to lower input costs while maintaining high-quality produce suitable for the premium market. It is a robust, low-maintenance variety that delivers stable returns for commercial operations.
