Description CHIISHMINSKY 229
Pea (Pisum sativum L.) variety 'Chiishminskiy 229' is a mid-ripening grain type variety developed through multiple individual selection methods from the hybrid population 'Chiishminskiy 75 x Zelenozerny 1' at the Bashkirian Research Institute of Agriculture. The variety was included in the State Register of Breeding Achievements in 2007 and is recommended for cultivation in the Urals region, including the Orenburg region, as well as the Central Black Soil region. Plants reach heights ranging from 55 to 100 cm, having 12-14 internodes up to the first inflorescence and 14-18 internodes in total. Leaves consist of 2-3 pairs of entire or broadly ovate leaflets; stipules are well-developed and of average size. Flowers are white, arranged in pairs on the peduncle, and the inflorescence is a two-flowered raceme. Pods are straight or weakly curved, about 5.5 cm long and 1.4 cm wide, with a blunt apex and a strongly developed parchment layer, making them shattering-resistant. Each pod contains 3 to 6 seeds, which are round in shape, have a smooth surface, and are yellow-pink in color with orange cotyledons. The seed coat is fused with the hilum, which prevents shattering at full maturity. The mass of 1000 seeds ranges from 220 to 277 g. Protein content in seeds is at the level of 20-29.5%, ensuring high market and culinary qualities of the product. The variety exhibits good resistance to drought, lodging, and shattering, although it is susceptible to ascochytosis, root rots, and rust. 'Chiishminskiy 229' is distinguished by high potential yield, which in competitive variety trials reached 26.6 c/ha, exceeding the standard variety 'Chiishminskiy 95' by 3.4 c/ha. The maximum seed yield recorded was 38.3 c/ha. Due to its characteristics, the variety is widely used for producing high-quality grain peas suitable for food purposes. It surpasses many adapted varieties in the number of productive nodes, pods, and seeds per plant, making it attractive for agricultural production in the recommended regions.
