Mode of action

Basis is primarily absorbed by weed leaves and quickly translocated after application to the root tips and leaves. Basis stops cell division in sensitive weeds by affecting their enzyme system, which does not exist in the human or other warm-blooded organism. Sensitive weeds stop growing within a few hours and no longer compete with crop plants for water and mineral nutrients. Visible symptoms such as cessation of growth, chlorosis, wilting of terminal shoots, and necrosis appear within a few days after application. Complete weed death occurs within 10-20 days. More resistant weeds or those at later growth stages may stop growing and no longer compete with crop plants upon application.
