KABARDINO-BALKAR STATE AGRICULTURAL EXPERIMENTAL STATION
DescriptionNALCHICK 1
The «Nalchick 1» oat variety is a high-yielding hybrid developed for cultivation in moderately arid climatic conditions. It belongs to the "gold" group of varieties and is distinguished by high protein content (≈12–13%) and starch molecules, which ensure good flour and high dough quality.
The variety's yield reaches 6–8 t/ha under optimal conditions. With normal soil moisture and a moderate temperature regime during the season, yields up to 7.5 t/ha are possible. Growth periods are 70–75 days from sowing; grain fully matures by mid-August. A dense, strong root system allows deep water penetration and ensures drought resistance.
«Nalchick 1» shows moderate resistance to powdery mildew (Fusarium) and root rot, as well as powdery rust and «dusty» and «sulfur» fungi. With proper use of fungicides and insecticides, the risk of damage is reduced. The variety is suitable for commercial production of bread, grains, and feed grains, widely used in Russian agro-industry and exported to CIS countries.
Successful cultivation requires fertile, well-drained soils with pH 6–7; moderate irrigation is recommended if moisture is insufficient. The variety is resistant to low temperatures up to –10 °C, allowing cultivation in northern regions. When observing irrigation schedules, nitrogen and phosphorus fertilization, yields can reach 4–5 t/ha, and grain retains high protein, fat (6–8%), and starch (70–75%) content.
