HAVSKAYA UNIVERSAL

Havskaya Universal is an early-maturing vegetable bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) variety with a maturation period from full germination to technical maturity of 41-73 days. The plant is bush-type, 35-40 cm tall, slightly spreading and moderately leafy, with a green stem and weak light-green pubescence. Leaves are large, broadly obovate, entire-edged, with a white-green axillary spot. Flowers are large, white with a green tint at the base, 4-8 flowers are formed on the middle peduncle. Lower pods are located at a height of 24-26 cm from the ground. Pods of the variety are flat, straight or slightly curved, 10-12 cm long and 1.2-1.4 cm wide, with a short beak. At technical maturity they are dark green, and at full maturity they are straw-yellow. Petioles at early stages of development have no parchment layer and fibers, which improves product quality. Each pod contains 4-8 oval-cylindrical seeds, white in color with a light marbled pattern and a distinctly visible white hilum. Dry matter content in pods is 6.2%, protein — 1.9%, ascorbic acid — 14.5 mg per 100 g of raw product. The taste of canned beans is rated as good. The variety is distinguished by high marketable yield — from 64 to 147 c/ha, which exceeds the indicators of standard varieties by 18-32 c/ha. The maximum yield, recorded in the Voronezh region, reached 154 c/ha. Havskaya Universal is resistant to ascochytosis, bacteriosis and yellow mosaic virus of bean, while being moderately susceptible to anthracnose. Thanks to its versatility, the variety is recommended for both home cooking and the canning industry. Sowing in the ground is usually carried out in May, which allows obtaining a stable and high-quality crop.
