Eggplant Aydin

Consistent Yields for Professional Vegetable Production

The Turkish breeding program of May-Agro Tohumculuk Sanayi ve Ticaret A.Ş. has established a reputation for providing solutions for commercial growers focused on marketability and transport logistics. The «Aydin» hybrid is a primary choice for operations targeting retail chains and fresh produce markets, where specific fruit size and uniform coloration are prerequisites for success.

Agronomic Strengths

• Fruit Geometry: The cylindrical shape, with a length ranging from 26 to 40 cm, ensures the produce remains visually appealing on retail shelves. This size profile allows for efficient packaging without space loss or skin damage.
• Weight and Marketability: With an average weight of 200–300 grams, these fruits are ideal for household consumption. The uniformity in weight significantly reduces sorting waste and ensures consistent portion sizes.
• Color Stability: The deep dark-purple color remains vibrant throughout the shelf-life, which is a critical factor for maintaining quality along the supply chain from field to shelf.

Practical Farm Application

«Aydin» shows predictable results in both film greenhouses and open-field cultivation with drip irrigation. The main advantage of this hybrid is its ability to minimize post-harvest losses. Thanks to a dense yet non-fibrous flesh, the fruit withstands transportation extremely well without losing its premium appearance. Growers benefit from the concentrated harvest period, which allows for better labor management and faster field clearing for subsequent rotations. When managed with precision fertigation, the yield potential is fully realized, ensuring a steady supply of high-quality produce throughout the season.
