Cucumber VERNY DRYUZOK

Reliable Yield for Varied Growing Conditions

The "Verny Druzhok" (Faithful Friend) cucumber, developed by the Russian seed company Sedek, is a classic parthenocarpic hybrid created by a team of renowned breeders including A.N. Lukyanenko, S.V. Dubinin, and I.N. Dubinina. Since its market introduction, it has established a solid reputation as an ultra-early variety designed to maximize yield efficiency.

Agricultural Features

The hybrid’s main strength lies in its adaptability. Classified as a vegetative plant type, "Verny Druzhok" thrives in diverse environments, from open fields to glass or plastic greenhouses. For growers, timing is critical: the first harvest is typically ready in under 40 days after germination.

Fruit Specifications

• Surface: Small-tubercled texture, making these cucumbers an excellent choice for pickling and canning.
• Size: Compact fruits measuring 7–9 cm, adhering perfectly to gherkin standards.
• Weight: A consistent range of 80 to 110 grams.
• Color: Light green, maintaining a fresh appearance during transport and retail.

Disease Resistance and Protection

The breeding focus for Sedek in this instance was durability. "Verny Druzhok" exhibits significant resistance to root rot and downy mildew (peronosporosis). With proper agricultural practices, the plant successfully withstands powdery mildew, which is vital for extending the harvesting window well into late autumn.

Due to its parthenocarpic nature, the hybrid does not require bee pollination, making it an optimal solution for indoor growing. Whether for small-scale gardening or commercial farming, this hybrid is a trusted tool for those prioritizing an early, predictable, and high-quality harvest of gherkins.
