Elbrus

The Elbrus cucumber is a medium-early, bee-pollinated pickling variety characterized by a vigorous, branched plant. From germination to the first harvest of fruits, it takes approximately 43-48 days. The fruits of this variety are large, white-tipped, dark green with light, blurred stripes. The fruits measure 9-12 cm in length, 3.2-3.8 cm in diameter, and weigh 70-93 g. The skin is tender, and the flesh is dense and crisp, with no bitterness genetically present, ensuring excellent taste qualities for both fresh and preserved fruits. The Elbrus variety is highly resistant to diseases such as downy mildew and false powdery mildew, as well as cucumber mosaic virus. It is tolerant of adverse environmental conditions, making it suitable for organic farming. Planting density is 3-4 plants per square meter, with yields reaching 10 kg per square meter and more. The plant has a mixed flowering type with a predominance of female flowers, which contributes to good fruiting. In terms of agronomy, the Elbrus variety requires standard care: seedlings are sown at the end of April to early May, and transplanted into open ground at the end of May. Regular watering and weed removal are necessary for successful cultivation. Cucumbers of this variety are widely used in cooking, primarily fresh for salads, due to their tender flavor and lack of bitterness. Additionally, the fruits have high commercial yield and excellent storage qualities.
