Cucumber PORUCHIK RZHEVSKY

Reliable Open-Field Production

The 'Poruchik Rzhevsky' hybrid is a robust cucumber variety developed specifically for growers who prioritize reliability over complex greenhouse maintenance. As a parthenocarpic variety, it sets fruit independently of insect activity, making it a perfect candidate for open-field cultivation where pollinator populations can be inconsistent.

Key Attributes and Performance

• Disease Resistance: Built-in immunity to downy mildew, powdery mildew, and olive spot.
• Fruit Profile: Small-warted, light green skin, weighing approximately 80 grams.
• Cultivation Type: Specifically bred for open-field conditions.
• Pollination: Parthenocarpic (no pollination required).

What sets this variety apart is its rugged resilience to thermal fluctuations in unprotected environments. While many specialty hybrids struggle with the stresses of wind and direct sun, 'Poruchik Rzhevsky' maintains consistent production. Its size makes it a versatile "dual-purpose" cucumber, excellent for fresh consumption and reliable enough for pickling.

It is the optimal choice for small-to-medium scale farmers who need to minimize the use of pesticides. By resisting the three most common cucumber pathogens, it allows for a cleaner, more economical growing season. For best results, consistent moisture is required, as extreme heat can affect the uniformity of the light-green pigmentation.
