Mestana

Cucumber variety Mestana is an early-maturing parthenocarpic hybrid that does not require bee pollination. With adequate nutrition, each plant forms 6-7 fruits per node, ensuring high yield. The fruits are dark green, with small bumps and spines, have excellent texture and are free of bitterness. Fruit length reaches up to 11 cm, and weight varies from 70 to 98 grams. This variety is ideal for both fresh consumption and processing, including canning and pickling. Mestana is resistant to several diseases, including cucumber mosaic virus, cladosporiosis, true powdery mildew, and olive spot, and also exhibits tolerance to false powdery mildew. The plant is medium-branched and indeterminate, promoting stable fruiting. Due to its resistance and high productivity, this variety is recommended for cultivation in glass and plastic greenhouses, as well as in open ground, both vertically and horizontally. For successful cultivation, seeds are sown at a depth of 1.5-2 cm at a temperature of around +25°C, then reduced to +20°C. Sowing in open ground is carried out at the end of May when soil temperature exceeds +13°C and air temperature exceeds +15°C. Seedlings are transplanted after frost risk with a density of 3-4 plants per square meter. Plants are recommended to be covered with plastic film and stems directed horizontally, tied to a trellis. Harvest begins 48 days after mass emergence, with total marketable yield reaching up to 16.9 kg/m² in open ground and up to 32 kg/m² in protected conditions.
